The Oxford Creamery – National Hot Dog Month Day 14

oxford creameryThe Oxford Creamery on route 6 in Mattapoisett is one of those ubiquitous summer shacks that dot the New England landscape. It’s the place you go for an ice cream with the family on a hot summer night or for a big basket of fried clams for a decadent dinner after a day at the beach. The fare is familiar, and it includes what we’re interested in on Hot Dog Stories: hot dogs!

They serve hot dogs in the restaurant, but they also have a full-on hot dog trailer in the parking lot called The Oxcart. It’s there to handle overflow and to give patrons wanting a quick bite a chance to get in and out quickly.

The Oxford Creamery has Coney Island Hot Dogs

The Oxcart at the Oxford Creamery isn’t just any old cart, they’re dishing up a real deal Coney Island sauce – secret recipe and all! This aint no dirty water wagon: they have a full grill and they serve their Old Neighborhood franks steamed or grilled with grilled buns. You can also grab a burger, a linguicia roll, a lobster roll, fries, and even ice cream. If you want the full menu, it’s right across the parking lot, but for a quick bite, the Oxcart is just the ticket.

It was a steaming day when we stopped by, and the service and the food were top-notch. Like the restaurant, the Oxcart is only open in the summer time, but the shorter waits it has ensures it will be a fixture for years to come. Check out their website and Facebook page for more info.
