The nice folks at Slawsa sent me a one gallon, food service sized jug of the YUMMY new condiment. I decided to play Santa Hotdogman and bring it down to one of my go-to local hot dog joints, Zippity Do Dog in Framingham. They have great Coney Sauce and I was craving to try a Coney Dog with some Slawsa!
The Slawsa story is pretty amazing. Small food companies struggle to gain shelf space amidst the goliaths of the industry but the Slawsa brand has made waves in their inaugural year, amongst retailers and critics alike.
Slawsa is EVERYWHERE
Launching just over one year ago, Slawsa can now be found in over 3,500 retailers nationwide and consumers are taking notice too. The innovative relish described as a cross between a ‘slaw’ and ‘salsa’ is a must-have for grilling, tailgating and everyday home use as a new staple in the condiment shelf of refrigerators across America.
Slawsa is ideal to top hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, pork and fish yet is versatile as a sandwich spread or as a dip for tortilla chips. Slawsa is also a healthier alternative as it is fat-free, cholesterol-free, gluten-free and contains far less sodium than many of the traditional condiments on the market.
“We are truly honored that so many buyers recognize just how different and delicious Slawsa is and were willing to give a chance to our small business,” says co-owner Judson Odom, who developed the recipe based on one of his late mother. “To think that Entrepreneur named Slawsa as one of the top ten food/beverage items in their prestigious holiday gift guide is so very humbling. We are blessed.”

Where can I get this stuff?
Ingles Markets of Black Mountain, NC gave the Slawsa brand its first opportunity to get on the relish shelf in October, 2011 and since then, major retailers such as Kroger, Publix, Piggly Wiggly, Meijer, Roche Brothers, and select Walmart stores have added Slawsa to their shelves, allowing for the brand to reach from Boston to Florida and North Dakota to Texas.
“We’re definitely changing people’s minds as to what they think a ‘relish’ is or could be and we’re on a mission to bring excitement back to the category as a whole and back to American taste buds,” says co-owner Julie Busha. “We didn’t set out to be revolutionary, we just wanted Slawsa to make the world more delicious.”
Slawsa is a gourmet topping that can be purchased from the relish section in stores in the Southeast, Midwest and Central states and via online at www.Slawsa.com, where they are hosting their “Slawesome Sale” through the month of December.
