Java Dogs by Lisa is a little hot dog cart run by Lisa Ross at 351 Sebego Lake Road in Gorham, Maine. Hotdogman Jr. was looking for a ride back to Windham and when I told him the bus was a solid option, he reminded me about Java Dogs by Lisa. I stopped by this hot dog cart last fall when I dropped him off at school and promised I’d be back. Needless to say, Hotdogman Jr. got a ride and I got a Hot Dog Story!
Java Dogs by Lisa serves Maine Red Snappers
Lisa serves breakfast and has a fine assortment of coffees and breakfast fare. She also has chicken salad, lobster rolls, and Italian sausages. The specialty of the house is somewhat of a Maine delicacy: the Red Snapper. This hot dog is made by Jordan’s and it’s Maine’s signature hot dog – you’ll find them all over the state. The red color was a way for butchers to differentiate their hot dogs from other butchers “back in the day.” They taste like regular hot dogs, but there’s something about the bright red coloring that makes it a special treat.
Lisa, who has run Java Dogs by Lisa for 5 years, is the only hot dog cart in Gorham. She has quite a personality and enjoys joking around with the regulars. I think shhe thought the whole filming was a bit odd, but she was a good sport and had a few surprises in store. You can check out Java Dogs by Lisa on her Facebook Page and if you are ever up in this beautiful part of Maine, stop by and tell her “the Hotdogman sent me.”
Enjoy the video.
I shoot Hot Dog Stories with a Kodak Zi8 camera with an Audio Technica ATR288W VHF Battery-Powered TwinMic Microphone System, a Flip Ultra HD camera, and a 60″tripod. I edit with Cyberlink PowerDirector 11 Ultimate. I will also take some stills with my new Canon EOS Rebel Camera.
