Fenway Sausage Works – National Hot Dog Month Day 22

Fenway Sausage Works

We visited Fenway Sausage Works last year, but owner Cory Hanks had a NEW hot dog on his menu I just had to try out: The Merlino Dog! Cory is a good guy who had a rough time getting started in the hot dog business. The New Bedford city government didn’t have any sort of mobile food ordinances, so they shut him down last year on the Saturday before Easter. I made some calls on his behalf and got some media attention for him, so he showed his appreciation by creating a special hot dog after me!

Currently, Fenway Sausage Works operates late nights in Custom House Square in New Bedford. Cory also does a lot of catering gigs and special events. His true love is serving the public, that’s why he’s passionate about getting the City of New Bedford, which has spent a lot of money beautifying the downtown and waterfront, to be more mobile food friendly. Cory has been working with the city council drafting a new mobile food ordinance he hopes will be in place by the beginning of next year.

Fenway Sausage Works Grills Pearl Franks

Cory has quite a big repertoire in his little trailer. In addition to grilling Pearl Franks, he grills burgers, linguica, “walking tacos” (chili, lettuce, tomato etc in a bag of Fritos), and he has just about anything you’d want to put on a hot dog. The Merlino Dog is a HALF POUND, butterflied Pearl Frank charred with BBQ sauce, stuffed with bacon, topped with more BBQ sauce, Onion Crunch, and TORCHED cheddar cheese! It is one big, honking, delicious hot dog!

I took Mrs. HDM, Hotdogman Jr. and his girlfriend down to sample the eponymous frank. The results were amazing! You can find Fenway Sausage Works on their Facebook Page.

Enjoy the video.

I shoot Hot Dog Stories with a Kodak Zi8 camera with an Audio Technica ATR288W VHF Battery-Powered TwinMic Microphone System, a Flip Ultra HD camera, and a 60″tripod. I edit with Cyberlink PowerDirector 11 Ultimate. I will also take some stills with my new Canon EOS Rebel Camera.

About hotdogman
